Please note prefiling allows one to file their 485 papers but will not get an EAD unless ur priority date becomes current.
Satya & OP. I agree with you. Point # 3 is very significant to many many people who don't have EAD. I believe that nothing also happened to the pre-filing concept which would have allowed this. I also do very sincerely appreciate IV's efforts for the larger cause of CIR, let�s see what happens.

My company is layingoff people. We have been through 5 rounds of layoffs. They have asked all the H1Bs to hold off until about 6 months after the final layoff is over. They have issued written memos to all my cols in H1B stating this reason. Truly unfortunate.

This is not that straight forward either. Family reunification bills also linked family based immigration to this and very likely run into the same battle between pro-business and pro-family(more so of pro-any-immigration, legal or otherwise) legislators. I spoke to an official in Sen. Cornyn's office and they were of the opinion that he might not support that bill as a whole, while he has been very pro-business STEM bill architect and is ok with the recapture of unused EB visas.
Also, at that time they did not have a plan to re-introduce STEM bill or any flavor of it.
We have a huge mountain in front of us and will need a lot of work to get any of these bills to even make it to the floor for discussion let alone pass. Ultimately that is our challenge after CIR dies (or never wakes up) to make these piece meal bills a higher priority in a sea of high priority/publicized legislations.
I take this as another posiitve.
Paves the way for the smaller bills like the family reunification (visa recapture) to be passed without the chirkuts putting stops citing a CIR is required then voting against the CIR.
Agree with u guys lets push for the family reunification bill.

I am sorry to say , but I have not seen any results from IV as well , they seem to be in the same boat as us, wait , wait and wait more, things will take care of themselves over time, seems to be the strategy.

After a long 5 years I finally received 485 case approved letter for both my case and my spouse's case. However the online status still shows pending. Is this common?. How long would it take for the online case status to be updated.

I don't think so. I applied for AP on my own - and I got only 2 copies, not three.
I too applied on my own and I got 3. May be 1 extra copy...that's why, i guess, the first offices gave me one copy right away and took 2 other copies.

If you have applied for CP while you applied for 140 then you can do as I have described. But in case you have applied for AOS after you have applied for 140 you CP will automatically get canceled and converted to AOS. If you want to go back to CP , contact your attorney to do so since I know for sure there is a form to do that. But why are you confusing your self and confusing USCIS and making your case over complicated?
Contact your attorney and see what are your options.

from what I have heard TB can be deadly. (btw I am not a doctor). I don't know what your post means but if it seems that you do have some form (or mild TB or whatever) ..then do take advantage of the treatments that are available ..health is wealth (esp go for treatment if you have insurance etc)
